The Porsche Macan should make its debut relatively soon likely later this year at the Frankfurt Auto Show. Some details have leaked out although they can not be confirmed. The interior spy photo clearly shows design elements from the Panamera and new 991 generation 911. The center console also shows a PDK style shift lever so the entry level SUV will have a dual clutch transmission. Lack of a traditional automatic will likely affect tow capacity. ...Published on 06-16-2013 07:55 PM
Some very nice results here of a USP Motorsports built 997.2 Turbo. The car has a built motor and upgraded turbos although the specifications are not listed by USP Motorsports. The car is a 6-speed manual and that is reflected in the elapsed time and trap speed as well. For 827 wheel horsepower as claimed at 21.7 pounds of boost one would expect a bit more as PDK 997.2 Turbos with far less power are in the 9's on stock turbos (9.8 @ 135). ...Published on 06-08-2013 12:16 AM
Good runs here showing the strength of the Porsche Panamera Turbo especially from a stop. This particular Panamera Turbo has a PP-P Performance ECU tune but also 22 inch wheels and a Techart body kit which are not doing it any favors. The BMW F10 M5 is stock other than catless AMS downpipes. In stock form, the M5 is the faster of the two cars but since it is rear wheel drive versus the Panamera's all wheel drive that is a detriment from a stop. ...Published on 06-07-2013 01:42 AM
The 2.5 liter to 3.0 liter displacement category of the Engine of the year awards is a hotly contested category. It is also a category BMW tends to dominate. For the first time in eight years someone other than BMW has won the award and it is Porsche breaking the streak with their 2.7 liter flat-6 motor out of the 981 Boxster and Cayman. The 265-275 horsepower (265 Boxster 275 Cayman) wins the award for the very first time. ...Published on 06-05-2013 04:02 AM
For those unfamiliar Ron Simons is a racing instructor who started RSRNurburg which is a racing school plus car rental facility on the Nurburgring. One can rent a sports car and take it out on the Nurburgring with an instructor for a hot lap or just have fun at their own pace on a lap of the famed track. Pretty cool and for promotional purposes Ron Simons and the queen of the ring Sabine Schmitz (of BMW M5 ring taxi fame) got together for a little grudge match on the ring. ...Published on 05-31-2013 09:20 PM
The Porsche Macan design has already been basically completely leaked online but Porsche states that the official reveal will take place at the Los Angeles International Auto Show in November. What is interesting is that this same source regarding the reveal date also claims a starting price point in the $42,000 range. Will that be with a turbo 2.0 four cylinder motor sourced from VW? Most likely but being able to get a Porsche SUV under $50k will definitely pad Porsche sales quite a bit. ...Published on 05-28-2013 06:02 AM
This is a very odd comparison by two vehicles that do not exactly overlap in purpose or demographic. That is partially what makes it so fun to see. On one side you have the very powerful (550 horsepower) and very heavy (4883 pound) 958 Cayenne Turbo S. On the other you have its polar opposite relatively weak (140 horsepower) but very lightweight (1146 pound) Caterham 7 Supersport. So that begs the question, which is the fastest? ...Published on 05-27-2013 07:32 PM
The Lamborghini Aventador is a beast. Just a flat out best in stock form capable of 10's and traps speeds around 133 miles per hour. The car dynos 635 horsepower to the wheels in stock form on a dynojet. That is a lot of power and naturally aspirated power to boot. So it's fast, it's strong, but what happens when it races a Protomotive 997.1 Turbo? The video below shows the outcome and the 911 Turbo simply crushes it. ...Published on 05-25-2013 09:51 PM
Here's a fairly serious suspension upgrade for the Porsche 981 based vehicles including the Cayman and Boxster. The TPC Racing Stage 4 suspension system consists of adjustable sway bars, adjustable drop links, adjustable toe links, and JRZ RS Pro adjustable dampers/coilovers with custom spring rates. ...Published on 05-25-2013 01:12 AM
The new 2014 Porsche 991 Turbo / Turbo S made its debut earlier this month with pictures and specifications released by Porsche. The coupe models will no doubt be followed by a convertible as they usually are. Expect the Porsche 991 Turbo to mirror the coupe which means the same 3.8 liter turbocharged flat-6 with 520 horsepower routed to all four wheels through a 7-speed PDK transmission. Same goes for the Turbo S Cabriolet model except horsepower will be 560. ...Published on 05-22-2013 07:11 PM
Great video here of three runs at the PBIR (Palm Beach International Raceway) between a McLaren MP4-12C and a Porsche 911 Turbo S PDK. Oddly enough, the McLaren seems to rip the 911 Turbo out of the hole on the runs despite not having all wheel drive. It's fast, very fast in the first run turning a 10.6@134 to the 911's 11.0@125. On the second run the McLaren gives the 911 Turbo the hit and seems to just barely run it down but the times are similar with a 10.6@133 for the McLaren and 11.0@126 for the 911 Turbo. ...Published on 05-21-2013 12:32 AM
Well, no surprise here. Porsche continues to embrace the dual clutch transmission making the PDK standard and the only option on their new GT cars such as the GT3 and GT2. It started with the 991 GT3 getting the PDK transmission only with no manual option and now the 991 GT2 and GT2 RS will take the same route. Even the new 991 Turbo does not have a manual transmission option meaning the PDK dual clutch is the only way to get it. ...Published on 05-19-2013 01:53 PM
A couple weeks ago an article was posted on PorscheBoost showing a stock 997.2 Turbo S going 10.6@129.8 in the 1/4 mile. Absolutely incredible performance out of a stock car. In case anyone thought that run was a fluke here is a video showing another 997.2 Turbo S at the drag strip this one going 10.71@127.73. This just confirms the Turbo S on street tires is a car that is just short of mid 10 second performance making it a stoplight terror. ...Published on 05-18-2013 11:53 AM
This is an interesting development and one that really makes one scratch their head. Porsche obviously has demonstrated hybrid technology can work and work extremely well in sports cars with their 918 Spyder hybrid supercar. A company spokesperson at the recent Panamera Hybrid technology workshop stated Porsche developed a new hybrid module that combines the electric motor and clutches in one unit is capable of fitting in all Porsche models including the 911. ...Published on 05-17-2013 06:31 PM
McLaren is expanding as a sports car manufacturer and seemingly plans to add a third model. McLaren currently builds the MP4-12C which is slotted against the 458 Italia and has a ballistic hybrid supercar called the P1 coming that will compete in the highest end of the supercar sectors likely directly rivaling the Porsche 918 Spyder hybrid supercar. It seems McLaren is not done going to head to head with Porsche and plans to take the battle to the "entry level" realm with a car to rival the Porsche 911. ...Published on 05-16-2013 08:15 AM
Say hello to the future, officially introducing the Porsche 918 Spyder. There has been speculation on the final output and exactly what Porsche would get out of the 4.6 liter V8 engine but that has now all been put to rest. Porsche managed to squeeze an incredible 133 horsepower per liter out of the 4.6 liter V8 (the highest per liter output of any Porsche production naturally aspirated motor) for a total of 608 horsepower spinning to an incredible 9,150 rpm. ...Published on 05-15-2013 09:58 PM
The Porsche failed takeover bid of Volkswagen continues to have more negative ramifications. Porsche already was facing lawsuits of over $3 billion but now that number is rising to over $5 billion as an additional 25 hedge funds in Germany have brought suits against Porsche. As word of this got out, Porsche stock fell 3.7% and is likely to tumble more. Suits were originally brought against Porsche in the USA but the hedge funds agreed to pursue this in Germany instead. ...Published on 05-12-2013 12:05 AM
Interesting dynojet dyno comparison at the rear wheels comparing four sets of turbos on the Porsche 996 Turbo. These twin turbo setups are the A3076 at 28 psi on E85 tuned by Tony@EPL, A28 at 24 psi on MS109 tuned Markski, K16G at 22 psi on MS109 tuned by Markski, and a set of OEM K24 turbos at 15 psi on 93 octane tuned by FVD. It's interesting to not the spool characteristics between the turbos and how the bigger setups are not giving up much of anything as far as spool is concerned. ...Published on 05-10-2013 04:41 AM
It's great to see the 911 Turbo versus the R8 and Nissan GTR as they are all four wheel drive performance cars and now all also share having a dual clutch transmission available with the R8 getting its minor refresh. This is something enthusiasts want to see except that it isn't all that fair taking two stock cars, the 911 Turbo and the Audi R8, and putting them up against a 750 horsepower tuned GT-R. What fun is it if we already know the outcome and the other two cars have no fair chance? ...Published on 05-07-2013 06:05 AM
Wow. Quite simply, wow. Talk about a car that just right out of the box impresses. Close to mid 10's and 130 in a stock car, incredible. The 997.2 Turbo S simply is a epic achievement. The launch control and PDK transmission clearly help as a 1.58 60 foot is mind boggling for a stock car on street rubber. The launch control system works and works very damn well. The result using it is a 10.672@129.80 for what is a new stock 997 Turbo 1/4 mile record. ...
